Applications for a Part-Time Bookkeeper/Office Manager

The East Blair Housing Corporative (EBHC) is now accepting applications for a Part-Time Bookkeeper/Office Manager. Established in 1976, the EBHC is a low income housing Co-Op in the heart of the Whitaker neighborhood. The EBHC is owned and operated by about 25 members.

The Bookkeeper/Office Manager position is a Part-Time position of 13 hours a week Monday-Thursday. The days worked are negotiable depending on the applicants schedule. The position is salary and pays $13,912 a year. We offer 4 weeks of paid vacation time a year, with 1 sick day per month. The vacations days do not roll over and are use them, or lose them. You will also be given paid time off for all federal holidays. We offer a bonus and possibility of a raise following a yearly review. Currently we do not offer health insurance or retirement benefits, although we are looking into offering a small retirement plan. We do however offer a free bus pass. We are looking for a start date of ASAP.

Job Description

  1. The Bookkeeper will provide general bookkeeping services for the Co-op consistent with generally accepted accounting practices.

  2. Collect and deposit all monthly carrying charges and other payments due to the Co-op. Maintain a record of payments assessed and received from the Members.

  3. Carry out, or cause to be carried out all loans, contracts, banking, bookkeeping, and financial reports for the Co-op, and the policies established by the Co-op.

  4. The Bookkeeper shall be responsible for all payroll, accounting, and reporting

    resulting from Co-op employees.

  5. Shall keep office open three hours a day, four days per week. The hours set must

    facilitate communication with HACSA, vendors, and Members.

  6. Prepare for the Management Committee the following reports:

    1. Monthly operating reports reflecting all income and expenditures, including budget performance, reserve activity, and vacancy loss. Reports are to be provided by day of the first management meeting of the month.

    2. Annual financial statement in July. The bookkeeper shall assist the Co-op accountant, perform audits, prepare forms, pay taxes, file local, State, and Federal reports as required.

    3. Annual budget proposal for initial review in March. Final approval after review by Co-op Committees must be made by June.

      Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Strong customer service skills
Experience with QuickBooks or similar software
Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel Experience preparing and managing budgets
Familiarity with loans, and working with financial institutions

Property Management experience
Experience working with Co-Ops or non-profits Payroll tax experience
Grant writing
Experience working with contractors
Otter software
Long-term commitment
